Educator, poet, playwright, essaytist, and activist Marvin X (born Marvin Jackmon, also known as Imam El Muhajir) was born on May 29, 1944 and grew up in Oakland and Fresno, California. After attending Merrit College in Oakland, he received his B.A. and M.A. in English from San Francisco State University.
